I was  happy hearing my young writers share their experiences of 'The Rain'. It was so interesting to know that these young minds are busy observing and seeking for ways  to express their thoughts and imagination. THE WINDY NIGHT

Anoka’s problem started the day Solo his father received his army discharge gratuity. For three years he had gone to Nigerian Army Pensions Office (NAPO) in Beku begging to be paid his gratuity of Four Hundred Thousand Naira, but he always returned home with a baleful story of a corrupt bureaucratic bottle-neck that was denying him his entitlement. Finally, he was paid after bribing the pension officer and the desk clerk who on all occasions previous to his payment had always looked at him like a dog eying a fat bone. 

It was evening so he hurried back home for fear of running into one of the armed robbery bandits infesting Beku. When he got home, he went straight to his big iron box and put inside it. Sometime in the midnight, his wife tapped in her effort to wake him up when she heard the creaking of their door; but he slept on with his usual nasal strains. She had to squeeze his nose before he could wake up. However, the door was burgled and the unwelcomed visitors made away with Solo’s money, while he helplessly wailed and cursed the day he was born.

As for Anoka who grunted while the raid lasted, he had to drop out of school few months later because his parents could not afford to pay his tuition.

The world has moved and so has everything with it. The Covid Pandemic has brought a lot of changes, especially to the educational sector. A lot of schools have found out ways of still being relevant despite the shutdown of schools for  months.

It is now a survival of the fittest, not just for schools, but also for teachers who want to be relevant in a post covid era. It is obvious that things would not remain the same for schools and the best way to tackle this challenge is to move with the time. The best way is to embrace blended learning, which has come to put a permanent stamp on educational activities globally. 

So, how would you fit in as a post covid teacher? The answer is move with the train, upgrade and find out ways you can still do your thing and be relevant. Schools have gone virtual and so have instructional materials. 

In order to still stand out as a 21st century educator, you must find ways of improving your teaching skills which includes planning  your lessons to be suitable to meet the educational need of a post covid world.  As more instructional materials are transferred online in virtual  classes, the need to also work to have more engaging lessons for students who might be physically separated from their teachers rises.

Technology has finally made itself a necessity in the global educational system. Don't be left out, upgrade your teaching skill.

THE POWER OF UNITY

JSS 2 student of THE ENTREP ACADEMY

Once in a town, there lived a man whose name was Daniel. Daniel was a part of the Military in that town. He led so many battles and never lost, because he and his men were in unity and co-operated with one another.

It was time for the General to choose who would be second in command after him and after thinking hard, he decided to choose Daniel. When the Parade Master heard about it, he kicked against it, but the General had already made up his mind and made it clear to the Parade Master;

“If you want to be second in command you must learn how to control your temper”.

 “Sir, but I have what it takes”, said the Parade Master.

Just as they spoke, they received a message that their enemy had come for revenge, and that same minute the General was hit by a stray bullet and fell down dead.

There was confusion everywhere, because the General did not succeed in choosing a second in command before he died. Everyone began to run in all direction, as there was no one to coordinate them. Some ran into the forest, some into river, while some ran into the hands of their enemy. Even the ones who were in the river and bushes were at more risk than the ones who ran into the hands of their enemy. The Parade Master tried to show some authority, but everyone ignored him as they were all running to find a safe place.

Daniel was confused, but he remembered one of the training they had, when the General said; “if you are being attacked unknowingly, disguise yourself to find out the strategy of your enemy and fight back.”

So, Daniel disguised himself, went into the camp of their enemy and learnt their strategy. By the time he came back, he was ready to attack. He noticed however, that he had just one hundred men to go to battle with, compared to a thousand from their enemy. He was informed that the Parade Master had gone ahead for the battle and that he was almost killed.

The Parade Master returned from the battle and thought hard. After narrowly escaping death, he knew what to do. He looked for Daniel. He asked for his forgiveness and together they discussed the strategy of their enemy. They came up with their own plan and fought back their enemy. They finally defeated their opponent and won the battle, because they were united.

The Brave Promise

Once upon a time, in a village called Afia, was a twelve -year- old boy, called Promise. Promise was obedient, honest and a peaceful boy. The other part of Afia village was a forest known as ‘The Fearful Kingdom’. In that forest, were three notorious boys, who moved between Afia village and The Fearful Kingdom, stealing people’s things.

The villagers complained to the local police in the village, but the police made light of it. They tried to make the villagers feel comfortable by telling them that nothing like that was happening. One day, Promise went to fish in a river that was a boundary between Afia village and The Fearful kingdom. As he was waiting for his hook to catch a fish, he saw three boys swimming and moving things as they moved. He looked closely and saw that some of the things they were moving were household things.

Promise ran quickly to the local police station to complain, but the policemen on duty took it as the complaint of a child who doesn’t know what he was saying. Promise got upset and ran out quickly. As he ran, he saw two of the boys whom he saw moving things. They had a big sack in their hands. Promise quietly followed them and saw that they were moving towards the chief’s house in the village. The boys felt someone was watching them and stopped to look around, but Promise hid himself behind a tree. The two boys spoke to themselves and quickly walked away from the chief’s house.

Promise came back home, but didn’t say anything to anyone. He wanted to have evidence. He remembered his uncle bought a camera for his father about a year ago. His father did not mind if he used it, so Promise went to the shelf in the sitting room and took the camera.

He ran back to the river and hid himself while he waited. After a while, he heard footsteps. He knew the thieves were back. He watched again as they moved things across the river. Promise quietly brought out the camera and took a quick shot, then quickly went down before he would be noticed. As the thieves got to the other side of the river and were about to get into the forest with the stolen items they had, Promise took another shot of them and started running. The three boys heard the sound of running footsteps at the other side of the river but were not sure if it was a human being.

Promise ran straight to the police station again and this time, he just showed them the pictures from the camera. The police saw that he was telling the truth and apologised to him, for not believing him earlier. They went with him to the river side and raided The Fearful Kingdom. The thieves were caught and arrested.

When the chief of Afia village heard of the brave acts of Promise, he inquired of his parents and sent for them. The chief appreciated the brave boy’s parents with the sum of fifty thousand naira. Promise was happy. He knew his school fees would be paid.
