The Three Little Pigs

It was another exciting period, as I listened to my young writers give their different perspectives on the story of The Three Little Pigs. The ideas are so interesting; please enjoy reading their stories!

A story by Zoe Nnaji (7 years old)

Once there were three little pigs. One day, the three little pigs were reading some books about wild animals. One reading about a lion, the other about a snake and the last little pig read about a crocodile. They mimicked the animals they were reading about.

Then when the animals that they were reading about heard the three little pigs mimicking them, the animals started chasing them. The pigs ran and ran, then thought of an idea. They decided to disguise themselves as other animals.

So when the wild animals saw them, they did not recognize them and kept looking for them.

A story by Gemma Worukwo (7 years old)

Once upon a time, there lived three little pigs. They lived in a small hut near the forest. One day, they heard a loud sound. The three little pigs were so scared, so they followed the sound and entered into a lion's cave. One of the pigs unknowingly woke up the lion, and the lion started chasing them. So the pigs decided to hide in the bush and set a trap for the lion. The lion fell into the trap, and the three little pigs lived happily ever after without fear of the lion.

A story by Elnathan Adegboro (6 years old)

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs who built three boats. The first pig’s boat was built with straws; the second pig built his boat with sticks, while the third pig built his boat with iron.

There came a big bad wolf one day, with his pirate boat wanting to destroy the three boats built by the three pigs. Two of the boats were destroyed, but the boat that was built with iron could not be destroyed.

The other two pigs learnt that it is better to build with a strong material and the three little pigs lived happily ever after.

A story by Olivia Nnaji (6 years old)

One day, the three little pigs were playing outside their house. As they were playing, a big bad wolf quietly entered their house and destroyed everything in the house. When the three little pigs entered the house after playing, they saw their house, and it was a mess.

They blamed the cause on themselves and started fighting one another. They injured themselves and were about going to the hospital when they saw some marks on their wall. They recognized where it came from; it came from the paw of  the big bad wolf. The three little pigs then apologized to themselves and became friends again.

A story by Victor Stanley (6 years old)

There were once three little pigs that visited a Juice Shop. The first pig ordered for a  strawberry juice, the second pig ordered for a lemonade juice and the third pig ordered for a pineapple juice. When they had finished with their drinks, they discovered they had no money to pay for them. So they had no choice, but to work for the juice maker in exchange for the money before he let them to go.

A story by Daniel Iheme (7 years old)

Once upon a time, there lived three little pigs.  The first pig was a scientist; the second pig a doctor, while the third was a basketball player.

One day, when the first pig went to his computer laboratory, he found out that a rock was about to fall and immediately he informed the other pigs. The second pig listened to the first pig, but the third pig who was a basketball player refused to follow the others out of where they lived. The third pig did not follow his friends because he didn't believe in science. All he was interested in was to prepare for the next game he had. So the other pigs left him.

One day, when he was trying out his basketball skill, he felt the ground shaking and was so scared. As soon as he looked up he saw a huge rock falling and ran as fast as he could.

The third little pig didn’t make it, because as soon as the rock hit the ground, the ground opened up and he fell and died.

Young Writers Write: The Rain

I was  happy hearing my young writers share their experiences of 'The Rain'. It was so interesting to know that these young minds are busy observing and seeking for ways  to express their thoughts and imagination. You never know how deep they can think, until you listen to them.  Enjoy reading their poems.

THE WINDY NIGHT
A poem by Ugonnaya Daniel Iheme, 7 years old
Calvary Garden Nursery and Primary School, Lagos, Nigeria

In the darkest night
There came a stormy wind
Then what followed
Was the rain beating
Against the bushes
And the roaring thunder
I also saw lights in the sky come and go
The streets were flooded
It all began with just a wind

A WINDY DAY
A poem by Zoe Nnaji, 7 years old
New Land Elementary School, Lagos, Nigeria

I went outside to play
But it was too windy
I went back inside to take a short nap
I woke up and it started drizzling
I thought the rain was about to stop
But it started raining heavily
I was so surprised
The wind brought the rain
I had to go back to sleep

A SCARY NIGHT
A poem by Olivia Nnaji, 6 years old
New Land Elementary School, Lagos, Nigeria

I was at home when it started to rain
The rain didn't scare me until the thunder came
The thunder and lightening scared me so badly
I quickly ran and hid under the bed
It didn't take long and the rain stopped
I came out from under the bed so happy

A COLD NIGHT
A poem by Victor Stanley, 6 years old
Vine International School Iwofe, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

It was a cold night
I could feel the chills all over my body
I hurriedly closed the windows
I reached out for my coat
As I lay on my bed
To enjoy the night sleep
I covered myself
With my blanket to keep warm.

A RAINY DAY
A poem by Adegboro Elnathan Ohunoluwa, 6 years
Vine International School, Port Harcourt

It was raining,
I needed an umbrella
A pair of boots
And a rain coat.
To go home
I got an umbrella,
A rain coat and a pair of boots.
The street was flooded
But I had to get home
It was such a wet day

A CLOUDY DAY
A poem by Gemma Chimenum Worokwo, 7 years
Bloombreed Montessori School, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

It was a cloudy day
No one could see
Because the sky was cloudy and dark
I thought it was night again
But I noticed that it wanted to rain
It didn’t take a long time
The rain started to drop
It was so heavy
That I went back to sleep.

Writing Acrostic: Young Writers

It was such a fun to watch these young writers as they described themselves with new words they learnt in acrostic poems. You never know how creative they are until you get them to write.

THE POWER OF UNITY

image from businessday.ng

A story by Henry Ogude

JSS 2 student of THE ENTREP ACADEMY
Once in a town, there lived a man whose name was Daniel. Daniel was a part of the Military in that town. He led so many battles and never lost, because he and his men were in unity and co-operated with one another.
It was time for the General to choose who would be second in command after him and after thinking hard, he decided to choose Daniel. When the Parade Master heard about it, he kicked against it, but the General had already made up his mind and made it clear to the Parade Master;
“If you want to be second in command you must learn how to control your temper”.
“Sir, but I have what it takes”, said the Parade Master.
Just as they spoke, they received a message that their enemy had come for revenge, and that same minute the General was hit by a stray bullet and fell down dead.
There was confusion everywhere, because the General did not succeed in choosing a second in command before he died. Everyone began to run in all direction, as there was no one to coordinate them. Some ran into the forest, some into river, while some ran into the hands of their enemy. Even the ones who were in the river and bushes were at more risk than the ones who ran into the hands of their enemy. The Parade Master tried to show some authority, but everyone ignored him as they were all running to find a safe place.
Daniel was confused, but he remembered one of the training they had, when the General said; “if you are being attacked unknowingly, disguise yourself to find out the strategy of your enemy and fight back.”
So, Daniel disguised himself, went into the camp of their enemy and learnt their strategy. By the time he came back, he was ready to attack. He noticed however, that he had just one hundred men to go to battle with, compared to a thousand from their enemy. He was informed that the Parade Master had gone ahead for the battle and that he was almost killed.
The Parade Master returned from the battle and thought hard. After narrowly escaping death, he knew what to do. He looked for Daniel. He asked for his forgiveness and together they discussed the strategy of their enemy. They came up with their own plan and fought back their enemy. They finally defeated their opponent and won the battle, because they were united.
MORAL LESSON
United we stand divided we fall.

The Brave Promise

A story by Promise Miller
JSS 2 student of The Entrep Academy

Once upon a time, in a village called Afia, was a twelve -year- old boy, called Promise. Promise was obedient, honest and a peaceful boy. The other part of Afia village was a forest known as ‘The Fearful Kingdom’. In that forest, were three notorious boys, who moved between Afia village and The Fearful Kingdom, stealing people’s things.

The villagers complained to the local police in the village, but the police made light of it. They tried to make the villagers feel comfortable by telling them that nothing like that was happening. One day, Promise went to fish in a river that was a boundary between Afia village and The Fearful kingdom. As he was waiting for his hook to catch a fish, he saw three boys swimming and moving things as they moved. He looked closely and saw that some of the things they were moving were household things.

Promise ran quickly to the local police station to complain, but the policemen on duty took it as the complaint of a child who doesn’t know what he was saying. Promise got upset and ran out quickly. As he ran, he saw two of the boys whom he saw moving things. They had a big sack in their hands. Promise quietly followed them and saw that they were moving towards the chief’s house in the village. The boys felt someone was watching them and stopped to look around, but Promise hid himself behind a tree. The two boys spoke to themselves and quickly walked away from the chief’s house.

Promise came back home, but didn’t say anything to anyone. He wanted to have evidence. He remembered his uncle bought a camera for his father about a year ago. His father did not mind if he used it, so Promise went to the shelf in the sitting room and took the camera.

He ran back to the river and hid himself while he waited. After a while, he heard footsteps. He knew the thieves were back. He watched again as they moved things across the river. Promise quietly brought out the camera and took a quick shot, then quickly went down before he would be noticed. As the thieves got to the other side of the river and were about to get into the forest with the stolen items they had, Promise took another shot of them and started running. The three boys heard the sound of running footsteps at the other side of the river but were not sure if it was a human being.
Promise ran straight to the police station again and this time, he just showed them the pictures from the camera. The police saw that he was telling the truth and apologised to him, for not believing him earlier. They went with him to the river side and raided The Fearful Kingdom. The thieves were caught and arrested.

When the chief of Afia village heard of the brave acts of Promise, he inquired of his parents and sent for them. The chief appreciated the brave boy’s parents with the sum of fifty thousand naira. Promise was happy. He knew his school fees would be paid.

The Kind Girl

A story by Udo Sunday Emmanuella, a JSS 1 student of The Entrep Academy School.

Once upon a time, in a village called Uju, there lived a farmer and his wife Mr and Mrs Okon. They had no child of their own for many years. One day on his way to the farm, Mr Okon, met an old woman who gave him a golden box and some instructions. He took the box home with so much faith, and followed the instructions of the old woman.

Three months later, his wife Mrs Okon, got pregnant and gave birth to a lovely baby girl, who was adored by everyone in the village. Her name was Sira. Sira grew up to be a humble respectful and hardworking young girl.

On her way to the farm one day, Sira met a man who by chance was travelling across the village and was robbed of his money, cloth and water. Sira saw him and out of compassion for the stranger, got some food and water and went home to get a cloth for him. He thanked her and went away. That was the beginning of Sira’s kindness.

Sira grew up with the habit of kindness and was shocked by a surprise visit from the first man she ever helped who was now in search of a wife. He visited with some gifts which she taught she didn’t deserved. It was then that the man told her of his intension to marry her.

So for a start, with her parents’ consent, Sira followed the man whose name was John to his home to meet with his parents, who fixed a date for the discussion of the planned marriage. Both parents met and set a date for the traditional marriage. After the marriage, Sira and John lived as husband and wife and Sira gave birth to a set of twins and they lived happily after.

THE GREAT WHALPHIN

picture from  www.diffen.com
A story written by  Odu C. Raymond JSS 2 student from The Entrep Academy School

Once upon a time, there lived two dolphin parents, they had a baby dolphin which was addressed as Dumbo. Dumbo was different from other dolphins, because he was half dolphin and half whale. At a point in time, a particular blue whale was attacking their territory and the sea community nicknamed it the ‘Monster’. So with nowhere else to go to, Dumbo followed his destiny without knowing where it was leading him. So many incidents happened during Dumbo’s life time.

One particular day, Dumbo wandered about in a part of his territory that had less water creatures, because he wanted to be alone. As Dumbo was moving, he nearly passed the territory boundary, when a blue whale, the particular one which was terrorizing other sea creatures, came up and was observing him without his knowledge. He examined Dumbo and was convinced that Dumbo was a whale, so he tried to push him over, but Dumbo had half the swimming power of both dolphins and whales, so he swam very well and went back to his territory.

This event made the blue whale to attack the dolphins more to the extent that Dumbo was made to live in the central area of the sea where he was more oppressed One day Dumbo decided to face his destiny, so, he decided to take a long journey to land, despite all the dangerous whales and long distance. He did everything that he could have done to prepare himself, before going away trickily without his parents’ knowledge.

As he traveled on the surface of the water, he saved a drowning crew of marine workers, and with his great speed of swimming and whale strength, Dumbo flipped up five men on board a ship, with his powerful tail. Finally, the captain of the crew who had fallen a meter above sea level held his breath, as he was about to release it, Dumbo dived into the water and saved him. The crew remembered that they were the ones who mixed male and female gametes of dolphins and blue whales, and accidentally poured the blue whales gametes on the dolphins own, and had to quickly exit because of a shark attack. So the marine workers, moved Dumbo and his community of dolphins to a better and a more peaceful part of the sea, where they all lived.

All other sea creatures who oppressed him, asked for his forgiveness and Dumbo forgave them all. News spread like wide fire and within a short time, a large multitude of people knew about Dumbo. Dumbo was awarded with a great title known as the “The Great Whalphin”.

 MORAL LESSON: Discover your uniqueness.

 QUESTIONS
1. What made Dumbo special?
2. What is the name of the animal that was attacking the dolphins?
3. Which set of people did Dumbo rescue?
4. Why was Dumbo awarded a title?
5. In your own words, explain what you think is the moral lesson in the story?
